Our founder
Gavin Winbanks established White Hawk Green in June 2022 to provide expert support for investment attraction, strategy, promotion and delivery. During his 20+ year career in the public and private sectors, he has worked for political and civic leaders and the chairs and chief executives of the world’s largest investors. Most recently, he advised and led Opportunity London, a public and private consortium, on the creation of London’s new capital investment strategy.
Gavin previously co-founded the UK Government’s Office for Investment (a joint Number 10 and Department for Business and Trade unit) and led on major commercial transactions, including the £10bn UK-UAE Sovereign Investment Partnership between the Office for Investment and Mubadala.
In an earlier role as Director, Capital Investment and Entrepreneurship, in the UK Government’s Department for International Trade, he developed the UK’s Capital Investment attraction strategy. This included working with the UK’s leading institutional investors, sovereign wealth and pension funds, venture capital and HNWIs in 20 different countries to encourage long-term investment across the UK in priority sectors. The team supported investment of more than £50bn over three years.
Before joining the civil service, Gavin worked at Macquarie Group, the diversified financial services institution, in Sydney and London. His responsibilities included international relations and establishing the company's external relations function and Foundation. In his final role as Chief of Staff to the CEO EMEA, he worked across 17 offices in 12 countries.
A fellow of the Forward Institute and a former member of the Urban Land Institute’s UK Executive Committee, Gavin was also on the OECD Advisory Board for Long Term Investment in Infrastructure. He has Bachelor of Business (International Trade) and Master of Arts (Communication Management) degrees.
Outside of work, Gavin is a qualified yoga teacher, represented England in mixed Indoor Netball in the World Championships in 2016 and was a “Working Man” in the Industrial Revolution scene in the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.
